WB: 1/5000 (or 0.2 µl/ml for 5 µg of Synechocystis PCC 6803 lysate) by ECL. Goat anti rabbit IgG:HRP was used as the secondary antibody. Detects a band of approximately 17 kDa (predicted molecular weight: 17 kDa).
Note: on a gradient gel this protein runs closer to 11 kDa.

HSP16.6 belongs to the class I family of small heat shock proteins. They are induced once a cell is stressed by an increase in temperature. Synechocystis Hsp16.6 is involved in the development of thermo tolerance and thylakoid stability. Small heat shock proteins appear to be involved in chaperone functions by protecting other proteins from irreversible denaturation.
