    CD13 in vitro SimpleStep ELISA® (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of CD13 protein in human serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatant samples


    The SimpleStep ELISA® employs an affinity tag labeled capture antibody and a reporter conjugated detector antibody which immunocapture the sample analyte in solution. This entire complex (capture antibody/analyte/detector antibody) is in turn immobilized via immunoaffinity of an anti-tag antibody coating the well. To perform the assay, samples or standards are added to the wells, followed by the antibody mix. After incubation, the wells are washed to remove unbound material. TMB substrate is added and during incubation is catalyzed by HRP, generating blue coloration. This reaction is then stopped by addition of Stop Solution completing any color change from blue to yellow. Signal is generated proportionally to the amount of bound analyte and the intensity is measured at 450 nm. Optionally, instead of the endpoint reading, development of TMB can be recorded kinetically at 600 nm.


    CD13 is an aminopeptidase involved in proteolysis of proteins by gastric and pancreatic protease. CD13 is widely expressed as a protein involved in metabolism of regulatory peptides. CD13 is a marker for acute myeloid leukemia.

  • Function

    Broad specificity aminopeptidase. Plays a role in the final digestion of peptides generated from hydrolysis of proteins by gastric and pancreatic proteases. May play a critical role in the pathogenesis of cholesterol gallstone disease. May be involved in the metabolism of regulatory peptides of diverse cell types including small intestinal and tubular epithelial cells, macrophages, granulocytes and synaptic membranes from the CNS. Found to cleave antigen peptides bound to major histocompatibility complex class II molecules of presenting cells and to degrade neurotransmitters at synaptic junctions. Is also implicated as a regulator of IL-8 bioavailability in the endometrium, and therefore may contribute to the regulation of angiogenesis. Is used as a marker for acute myeloid leukemia and plays a role in tumor invasion. In case of human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E) infection, serves as receptor for HCoV-229E spike glycoprotein. Mediates as well human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) infection.
  • Tissue specificity

    Expressed in epithelial cells of the kidney, intestine, and respiratory tract; granulocytes, monocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, cerebral pericytes at the blood-brain barrier, synaptic membranes of cells in the CNS. Also expressed in endometrial stromal cells, but not in the endometrial glandular cells. Found in the vasculature of tissues that undergo angiogenesis and in malignant gliomas and lymph node metastases from multiple tumor types but not in blood vessels of normal tissues. A soluble form has been found in plasma. It is found to be elevated in plasma and effusions of cancer patients.

  • The CD13 standard curve was prepared as described in Section 10. Raw data values are shown in the table. Background-subtracted data values (mean +/- SD) are graphed.
  • The concentrations of CD13 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the CD13 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: serum 1: 160, plasma (citrate) 1: 80, plasma (heparin) 1: 80, and plasma (EDTA) 1: 80. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean CD13 concentration was determined to be 724.9 ng/mL in serum, 658.0 ng/mL in plasma (citrate), 651.2 ng/ml in plasma (heparin), and 618.4 ng/mL in plasma (EDTA).
  • The concentrations of CD13 were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the CD13 standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows: HUVEC supernatant 1: 40. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean, dilution factor corrected CD13 concentration was determined to be 366.5 ng/ml in HUVEC supernatant.
  • Interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean CD13 concentration was determined to be 1245.6 ng/mL with a range of 1006.8 - 1765.3 ng/mL.
