    Serum albumin, the main protein of plasma, has a good binding capacity for water, Ca(2+), Na(+), K(+), fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. Its main function is the regulation of the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Major zinc transporter in plasma, typically binds about 80% of all plasma zinc.

  • Involvement in disease
    Defects in ALB are a cause of familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia (FDH) [MIM:103600]. FDH is a form of euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia that is due to increased affinity of ALB for T(4). It is the most common cause of inherited euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia in Caucasian population.

If you would like to coat the microtiter plate wells with your protein target, you should do that first. Adding BSA after allowing the protein target to bind the wells serves to block the wells from binding any more protein (ie. the antibodies).

We would not recommend diluting the antibodies before storing. Please follow the instructions as listed on each antibody's datasheet:

For ab19183, store the whole vial at 4C.


For ab25467 and ab31790, store at +4°C short term (1-2 weeks). Aliquot (intono smaller than 10ul)and store at -20°C long term. Avoid repeated freeze / thaw cycles.

I would recommend the following antibodies for your experiments:


ab7539 - Anti-Fibrinogen (HRP)

ab19183 - Anti - Human Serum Albumin (HRP)

ab25467 - Anti -Fibronectin (HRP)


Each are conjugated to HRP and do not require a secondary antibody, however, they are all conjugated to the same enzyme and thus each one must be detected in a separate well as you would not be able to distinguish one protein from another in the same well.

Thank you for contacting us. The first step of the conjugation method involves the oxidation of the sugar moieties of HRP into reactive aldehyde groups. In the second step, the aldehyde groups of HRP are allowed to form irreversible covalent bonds with some of the amino groups of the antibody. Since the reaction mixture is a 1:1 ratio of the antibody to HRP, the final molar ratio calculates to 3-4 HRP molecules per antibody molecule. The conjugate is assayed functionally through direct or sandwich Elisa assay (depending on the antibody), and compared with the previous one or two lots (conjugation batches). Merci de nous avoir contactés. La plupart des anti-HSA, y compris le ab19183 (conjugué HRP), ont été obtenus en utilisant la HSA entière comme immunogène. Il est donc difficile de prédire quel anti-HSA peut être utilisé en paire avec le ab19183. L'anticorps ab10241 (clone 15C7) a été utilisé en sELISA avec le ab2406 qui a été lui-même obtenu avec la HSA entière. Ceci suppose que le ab19183 peut fonctionner.
