Abcam’s Tranferrin Human in vitro ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of Transferrin in urine, milk saliva, CSF and cell culture supernatants.

A Tranferrin specific antibody has been precoated onto 96-well plates and blocked. Standards or test samples are added to the wells and subsequently a Tranferrin specific biotinylated detection antibody is added and then followed by washing with wash buffer. Streptavidin-Peroxidase Conjugate is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. TMB is then used to visualize Streptavidin-Peroxidase enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by Streptavidin-Peroxidase to produce a blue color product that changes into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is directly proportional to the amount of Tranferrin captured in plate.

    • Function

Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization. Serum transferrin may also have a further role in stimulating cell proliferation.
    • Tissue specificity

Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma.
    • Involvement in disease

Defects in TF are the cause of atransferrinemia (ATRAF) [MIM:209300]. Atransferrinemia is rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by iron overload and hypochromic anemia.
    • Sequence similarities

      Belongs to the transferrin family.
      Contains 2 transferrin-like domains.
    • Cellular localization

      Secreted.

      Answer

Thank you for your patience in awaiting our reply in the matter of compaibility with the kit. It is difficulty to know whether this will work. If the conjugation block the antibody binding site, it will interfere the assay. If not, it will be fine. Since it is a polyclonal antibody in the kit, the epitope has not been mapped so it would have to be tried to determine this.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

      Question

      Dear Sir/madam,

I am planning to buy 3 * 3 kits i.e 9 kits in total for detecting 3 different things as following:

      Albumin Human ELISA Kit

      Transferrin Human ELISA Kit

beta 2 Microglobulin Human ELISA Kit

I have some questions before I do this step and your help is highly appreciated. My questions are:

      1. I do measure above targets in peritoneal dialysate (PD) fluid and plasma. There are 2 types of ELISA in your company (Cell culture supernatant, Saliva, Milk, Urine Elisa which is more sensitive than plasma, serum Elisa). I am thinking to buyCell culture supernatant, Saliva, Milk, Urine Elisa, then I use them for measuring in Pd fluid and plasma . Is it applicable to use cell culturesupernatant Elisa for both?

      2. I am student and I am planing to buy the rest 6 Elisa after I get good results from 1st 3 Elisa that I use like test. Do I get good discount?

      3. I found sELISA, cELISA,...etc. what these small s and creferto?

      4. Is the only difference betweenab108885 andab99977, is difference in sensitivity?

Note: I have goodexperience with abcam. I bought MMP-13 Elisa kit from abcam few months ago and it worked perfectly. When I did biocompare search, then I found tempting prices in some companies, but Abcam was my first decision to contact after this good past experience.

      Thanks,
      Samir

      Answer

Thank you for your inquiry and you positive feedback.

Please see my answers to your questions below:

      1. I can confirm that the kits ab108902 (Transferrin Human ELISA Kit) and ab108788 (Albumin Human ELISA kit) were especially optimised for cell culture samples and I recommend to choose them for the experiment.

      2. We do offer bulk oder discounts. If you order 5 or more products you will get a discount. For 6 products you will currently get a 5% discount. Please do not forget to mention that when ordering. If you are planning to order more than 10 products, please contact our customer service department with the numbers and they might be able to offer you a higher discount.

      3. I can confirm that c stands for competitive ELISA and s stands for sandwich ELISA. In a competitive ELISA the competitor is labeled with biotin and the amount of the bound competitor is measured. This means that a high OD indicates a low amount of the protein of interest in your sample. A low OD means that the competitor has been ousted and there is a high amount of the protein of interest in the sample.

      4. I can confirm that the main difference between these two kits is the sensitivity. Both are suitable for cell culture supernatant, urine, serum, plasma.

Our Abpromise guarantee applies to all these kits.

I hope this information is helpful and wish you good luck with your experiments. Please do not hesitate to contact me again with any further questions.
