FunctionThe alpha-V integrins are receptors for vitronectin, cytotactin, fibronectin, fibrinogen, laminin, matrix metalloproteinase-2, osteopontin, osteomodulin, prothrombin, thrombospondin and vWF. They recognize the sequence R-G-D in a wide array of ligands. In case of HIV-1 infection, the interaction with extracellular viral Tat protein seems to enhance angiogenesis in Kaposi's sarcoma lesions.

Human Integrin alpha-V precursor contains a number of potential glycosylation sites (SwissProt) which may explain its migration at a higher molecular weight than predicted. This antibody was also raised against an immunogen that is predicted to recognize isoforms 1 and 2 of Integrin alpha V. The predicted molecular weights of isoforms 1 and 2 are 116 kDa and 112 kDa respectively.
