FunctionJunctophilins contribute to the formation of junctional membrane complexes (JMCs) which link the plasma membrane with the endoplasmic or sarcoplasmic reticulum in excitable cells. Provides a structural foundation for functional cross-talk between the cell surface and intracellular calcium release channels. JPH1 contributes to the construction of the skeletal muscle triad by linking the t-tubule (transverse-tubule) and SR (sarcoplasmic reticulum) membranes.
Tissue specificityAbundantly expressed in skeletal muscle. Very low levels in heart.

Whole cell lysate (0.5 or 1.0 mg per IP reaction; 20% of IP loaded) from 293T cells prepared using RIPA lysis buffer. Antibodies: ab195312 used for IP at 6 µg per reaction. For blotting immunoprecipitated Junctophilin 1, ab195312 was used at 1 µg/mL.
