TSSK-3 also known as Testis-Specific Serine Kinase 3 is a protein kinase that performs phosphorylation. It has a mass of approximately 37 kDa. This protein is primarily expressed in the testis where it plays a role in testicular function. TSSK-3 belongs to the family of serine/threonine kinases and is involved in signaling processes specific to sperm development and function.
Biological function summary

Serine/threonine kinase activities of TSSK-3 influence spermatogenesis. TSSK-3 engages in the regulation of important processes like cell cycle control and differentiation required for sperm maturation. Although TSSK-3 does not form part of an extensive complex its function notably impacts cellular activities during sperm development.

Pathways

TSSK-3 function integrates within the MAPK signaling pathway and the cell cycle regulation pathway. In the MAPK signaling pathway it interacts with other kinases and signaling molecules that modulate testicular functions and sperm maturation. Within cell cycle regulation TSSK-3 associates with proteins that govern cell division and polarization such as CDKs (Cyclin Dependent Kinases).

TSSK-3 links closely to male infertility and defects in spermatogenesis. Mutations or dysregulation in TSSK-3 activity can impact fertility by impairing sperm development. Additionally TSSK-3 may co-function with proteins like Aurora Kinases which also influence cell cycle processes contributing to testicular anomalies affecting fertility potential.
