Feline IL-5 ELISA Kit (ab273235) is an in-vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of Feline IL-5 in serum (feline IL-5 concentration is low in normal serum/plasma, and may not be detectable in this assay), plasma and cell culture supernatants.

This assay employs an antibody specific for Feline IL-5 coated on a 96-well plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and IL-5 present in a sample is bound to the wells by the immobilized antibody. The wells are washed, and biotinylated anti-Feline IL-5 antibody is added. After washing away unbound biotinylated antibody, HRP-conjugated streptavidin is pipetted to the wells. The wells are again washed, a TMB substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of IL-5 bound. The Stop Solution changes the color from blue to yellow, and the intensity of the color is measured at 450 nm.

Homodimeric cytokine expressed predominantly by T-lymphocytes and NK cells that plays an important role in the survival, differentiation, and chemotaxis of eosinophils. Also acts on activated and resting B-cells to induce immunoglobulin production, growth, and differentiation (By similarity). Mechanistically, exerts its biological effects through a receptor composed of IL5RA subunit and the cytokine receptor common subunit beta/CSF2RB. Binding to the receptor leads to activation of various kinases including LYN, SYK and JAK2 and thereby propagates signals through the RAS-MAPK and JAK-STAT5 pathways respectively (By similarity).
