The concentrations of H-FABP were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the H-FABP standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows : milk 1 : 50,000. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean H-FABP concentration was determined to be 4,273 ng/mL in milk 1 : 100,000.

The concentrations of H-FABP were measured in duplicates, interpolated from the H-FABP standard curves and corrected for sample dilution. Undiluted samples are as follows : serum 25%, plasma (citrate) 25%, plasma (heparin) 25%, cerebrospinal fluid 25%. The interpolated dilution factor corrected values are plotted (mean +/- SD, n=2). The mean H-FABP concentration was determined to be 1.93 ng/mL in serum, 2.05 ng/mL in plasma (citrate), 1.57 ng/mL in plasma (heparin), and 1.3 ng/mL in cerebrospinal fluid.

Human H-FABP ELISA Kit (ab243682) is a single-wash 90 min sandwich ELISA designed for the quantitative measurement of H-FABP protein in hep plasma, milk, serum, tissue extracts, and cit plasma. It uses our proprietary SimpleStep ELISA® technology. Quantitate Human H-FABP with 2.4 pg/ml sensitivity.
SimpleStep ELISA® technology employs capture antibodies conjugated to an affinity tag that is recognized by the monoclonal antibody used to coat our SimpleStep ELISA® plates. This approach to sandwich ELISA allows the formation of the antibody-analyte sandwich complex in a single step, significantly reducing assay time. See the SimpleStep ELISA® protocol summary in the image section for further details. Our SimpleStep ELISA® technology provides several benefits:
- Single-wash protocol reduces assay time to 90 minutes or less
- High sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility from superior antibodies
- Fully validated in biological samples
- 96-wells plate breakable into 12 x 8 wells strips
A 384-well SimpleStep ELISA® microplate (ab203359) is available to use as an alternative to the 96-well microplate provided with SimpleStep ELISA® kits.

Biological function summary
Fatty acid binding largely defines H-FABP's role facilitating the transport of fatty acids within cells which is key for energy production. It is not part of a larger protein complex but plays into broader lipid metabolism processes. The efficiency of H-FABP in fatty acid binding and transport helps maintain cellular energy homeostasis especially in tissues with high fatty acid metabolism like the heart.
Pathways
H-FABP integrates into the fatty acid metabolic pathways and the beta-oxidation pathway. It is associated with the transport and utilization of fatty acids linking it to the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway an important regulator of lipid metabolism. Proteins such as CD36 and PPARα interact with H-FABP within these pathways influencing lipid storage and energy balance.
