The ASC2/ASCI protein also known as nuclear receptor coactivator 7 (NCOA7) is an intracellular protein with a mass of approximately 87 kDa. It is mainly expressed in the brain pancreas and testis indicating its significant roles in these tissues. ASC2 acts as a transcriptional coactivator by enhancing the transcriptional activities of steroid hormone receptors and nuclear receptors. Through its coactivator functions ASC2 interacts with other proteins in the nucleus to help regulate the transcription of specific genes.
Biological function summary

ASC2 contributes as a part of the larger coactivator complex that enhances gene transcription. It interacts with nuclear receptors to potentiate their ability to bind DNA and influence gene expression. This protein also engages in direct protein-protein interactions with other transcription factors such as ASCOM components facilitating a range of cellular functions.
