추가 정보

ASN also known as Asparagine Synthetase is an enzyme that plays an important role in the biosynthesis of the amino acid asparagine. It catalyzes the conversion of aspartate and glutamine to asparagine utilizing ATP. The protein has a molecular mass of approximately 65 kDa. ASN is expressed in many tissues throughout the body including the liver and pancreas where it performs its enzymatic functions.
Biological function summary

ASN contributes to cellular nitrogen metabolism and protein homeostasis by assisting cells in maintaining an adequate supply of asparagine. It operates mainly in the cytoplasm and can be part of a multiprotein complex that includes other enzymes involved in amino acid metabolism. As the body requires nitrogen balance for vital processes the role of ASN is important in ensuring a continuous supply of necessary amino acids for protein synthesis and cellular growth.

Pathways

ASN is involved in the asparagine biosynthesis pathway and is also linked with the glutamine metabolism pathway. These pathways maintain cellular balance of amino acids and are interconnected with various metabolic processes. Notably ASN interacts with proteins such as glutaminase which helps convert glutamine to glutamate a precursor involved in the same pathway of amino acid synthesis.

ASN has associations with certain types of leukemia and neuroblastoma where increased ASN expression can affect tumor cell survival. The enzyme also connects to other proteins like glutaminase which influences glutamine metabolism within cancerous cells. Overexpression of ASN in these conditions can lead to adaptations that support the growth and survival of tumor cells indicating its importance in cancer metabolism research.
