Chromogranin B also known as secretogranin I is a member of the granin protein family and is sometimes referred to alongside chromogranin A and other chromogranins. Chromogranin B is a secretory protein with a known mass of approximately 80 kDa. This protein expresses primarily in neuroendocrine cells where it localizes to the secretory granules. Chromogranins including chromogranin B play a role in the formation and stabilization of secretory granules important for storing and releasing peptide hormones and neuropeptides.

Biological function summary

Chromogranin B functions beyond merely being a constituent of secretory granules. It plays a role in the regulation of neuroendocrine secretion processes and interacts with the chromogranin core complex. This complex is involved in the packaging and sorting of peptides and hormones within cells.
