Collagenase ColA also known as Collagenase G is an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the extracellular matrix. This enzyme belongs to the family of metalloproteases and has a mass of approximately 116 kDa. Collagenase ColA is expressed in a variety of bacteria notably in Clostridium histolyticum. It plays an important role in tissue remodeling and bacterial invasion by facilitating the breakdown of collagen which is the most abundant protein in the human body.

Has both tripeptidylcarboxypeptidase on Gly-X-Y and endopeptidase activities; the endopeptidase cuts within the triple helix region of collagen while tripeptidylcarboxypeptidase successively digests the exposed ends, thus clostridial collagenases can digest large sections of collagen (By similarity).
