The CYP4B1 also known as Cytochrome P450 4B1 is an enzyme part of the Cytochrome P450 family which plays a significant role in metabolizing xenobiotics and endogenous compounds. It has a molecular mass of approximately 58 kDa. This enzyme is found in various tissues with high expression levels in the lung and liver tissues. The CYP4B1 catalyzes reactions involved in the oxidation of several substrates making it important for metabolic processes.
Biological function summary

The enzyme acts mainly in the oxidation of fatty acids and other lipophilic compounds. It contributes to the activation and detoxification of xenobiotic substances. Although not a part of any large protein complex CYP4B1 works closely with its cofactors like NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase to achieve its function.
