Biological function summary
GNG4 participates in the modulation of intracellular signal pathways. It forms an integral part of the G-protein complex which includes another subunit known as GNB1. This complex is necessary for proper functioning of GPCR-mediated signaling. The G-protein complex influences various cellular responses by affecting ion channels enzymes and other intracellular pathways. The presence of GNG4 in neuronal tissues suggests its role in neurotransmission and the potential influence on neurologic function.
Pathways
GNG4 plays a role in the adenylyl cyclase signaling pathway and the phospholipase C pathway. In both pathways GNG4 together with GNB1 regulates the conversion of extracellular signals into intracellular actions. These actions include cyclic AMP production or calcium ion release which subsequently affect cellular activities. This involvement links GNG4 to various cellular processes by mediating inputs from diverse signals through its interaction with GPCR-related pathways.
