The HAS3 protein also known as hyaluronan synthase 3 is one of the enzymes responsible for the synthesis of hyaluronan a component of the extracellular matrix. HAS3 is smaller compared to other hyaluronan synthases with a mass of approximately 65 kDa. The enzyme is expressed in various tissues including the skin heart and lungs. Its regulation involves various cellular signals and it plays a role in cellular processes affecting tissue dynamics.
Biological function summary

HAS3 contributes to the regulation of extracellular matrix composition by synthesizing hyaluronan which affects cell migration and proliferation. It is not part of a classic complex but functions in coordination with other hyaluronan synthases like HAS1 and HAS2.
