Interferon alpha10 also known as IFN-α10 is a protein belonging to the type I interferon family. It has a molecular mass of approximately 20 kDa. This protein is known for its role in immune response and is expressed in various cell types including lymphocytes and dendritic cells. IFN-α10 functions as a cytokine meaning it is important for communication between cells to initiate and regulate the defense against pathogens.
Biological function summary

IFN-α10 plays an important role in antiviral defense immune surveillance and modulation of the immune response. This cytokine can interfere with viral replication processes within host cells assisting the body's natural defenses in controlling viral infections. IFN-α10 is part of the cytokine signaling complex engaging with cell surface receptors to initiate the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This induces the expression of genes responsible for antiviral activities and immune modulation.

Pathways

IFN-α10 engages in the JAK-STAT pathway and this influences cell survival cell proliferation and apoptosis.
