IRX2 also known as Iroquois Homeobox 2 is a transcription factor involved in embryonic development. It has a molecular mass approximately 49 kDa and is a member of the Iroquois homeobox gene family. IRX2 is expressed in several tissues including the developing nervous system and heart. It plays a role in pattern formation and cell differentiation during early embryonic stages.
Biological function summary

IRX2 functions as an important regulator of the transcription process during development. It is part of a family of Iroquois genes that form protein complexes to influence gene expression patterns. These complexes contribute to the establishment of regional identity in the embryo.
