LGALS12 also known as Galectin-12 is a protein involved in various cellular processes. This protein has a molecular mass of approximately 33 kDa and belongs to the galectin family which is known for its role in binding beta-galactosides. LGALS12 expresses largely in adipose tissues leucocytes and testis with some presence in the organs related to the immune system. Its carbohydrate-recognition domain plays an important role in mediating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions affecting activities like cell adhesion and signaling.
Biological function summary

LGALS12 influences processes through its cellular functions beyond carbohydrate binding. It is implicated in the regulation of cell growth apoptosis and immune responses. LGALS12 itself does not form a complex but modulates the activities of proteins by affecting signal transduction pathways and cellular networks. These functions suggest its involvement in energy homeostasis and immune response regulation contributing to overall organismal physiology.
