Biological function summary
MCM9 is involved in homologous recombination repair of DNA double-strand breaks. It participates in the pre-replication complex formation and in the activation of the replication checkpoint. As part of the MCM2-7 helicase complex MCM9 maintains genomic stability by ensuring accurate DNA replication and repair. This highlights its critical role in the maintenance of DNA integrity across cell divisions particularly in proliferating cells.
Pathways
MCM9 integrates into the DNA damage response and repair mechanisms. It works alongside proteins like RAD51 a recombinase in the homologous recombination pathway for repairing double-strand breaks. MCM9 also interacts with the ATR signaling pathway which becomes activated in response to DNA damage and works to halt the cell cycle to allow repair.
