Myeloid markers are important components involved in the identification and characterization of myeloid cells including monocytes macrophages and granulocytes. These markers such as CD14 CD33 and CD68 have a molecular mass that varies depending on the specific marker. Scientists use these markers to study cell lineage and differentiation in hematopoietic cells. They mainly express in bone marrow spleen and peripheral blood where myeloid cells are abundant. Alternate names for myeloid markers include leukocyte antigens which denote their role in leukocyte classification.
Biological function summary

They help facilitate cell-cell communication and receptor-mediated phagocytosis in immune responses being part of cooperative complexes on cell surfaces.
