Neurotensin Receptor 1 also known as NTSR1 functions as a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) that binds to the neuropeptide neurotensin. This protein consists of seven transmembrane domains typical of GPCRs and has a molecular mass of roughly 46 kDa. NTSR1 commonly expresses in the central nervous system particularly in the brain regions such as hypothalamus and basal ganglia and also in peripheral tissues like the gastrointestinal tract.
Biological function summary

NTSR1 influences signaling cascades that regulate various physiological processes. It forms part of a receptor-ligand complex with neurotensin a peptide that modulates neurotransmission and hormone regulation. Neurotensin and NTSR1 interaction can affect neurotransmitter release modulating pathways related to pain locomotion and thermoregulation.
