The Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor beta known commonly as CHRNB1 or CHRNB forms part of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). This receptor is a transmembrane protein channel that participates in the transmission of signals through the synaptic cleft by responding to the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. CHRNB1 has a molecular mass of approximately 58 kDa. Researchers find this receptor member expressed in neuromuscular junctions and in several areas of the central nervous system including the brain and spinal cord providing essential roles in synaptic transmission.
Biological function summary

CHRNB1 functions as a component of the pentameric ion channel complex that forms upon binding with other subunits like the alpha subunit of nAChR.
