The Pasteurella multocida toxin commonly referred to as PMT is a single-chain polypeptide with a molecular weight of approximately 146 kilodaltons. PMT is a potent virulence factor expressed by the bacterium Pasteurella multocida predominantly in cells infected by this pathogen. This toxin modulates host cellular functions through its manipulative activities on G-proteins leading to an alteration of host signaling pathways. PMT directly targets the alpha subunits of heterotrimeric G-proteins causing their persistent activation.
