PHF17 also known as Jade-1 is a protein that plays a significant role in chromatin remodeling and gene transcription. It weighs around 93 kDa and is expressed predominantly in the kidney although it shows presence in other tissues as well. PHF17 functions by recognizing specific histone modifications through its plant homeodomain (PHD) finger domains which enable it to bind to chromatin and influence gene expression.
Biological function summary

This protein is involved in essential cellular processes such as DNA damage response and apoptosis. PHF17 acts as part of larger complexes including its interaction with histone acetyltransferase HBO1 which facilitates the acetylation of histones and impacts chromatin structure. These interactions enable PHF17 to help regulate cell cycle progression contributing to the fine control of cellular proliferation and differentiation.
