RAB30 is a small GTPase that belongs to the RAB family which functions in intracellular membrane trafficking. Sometimes referred to as Ras-related protein Rab-30 it weighs approximately 23 kDa. This protein facilitates the movement of vesicles between different cellular compartments. RAB30 is widely expressed in many tissues including the brain liver and lungs suggesting a diverse role within the body in managing vesicular transport and communication between organelles.
Biological function summary

The regulation of vesicle trafficking involves RAB30 and other Rab GTPases. They act as molecular switches cycling between inactive GDP-bound and active GTP-bound states. Though RAB30 does not appear as part of a larger complex it works closely with effector molecules that help determine cargo movement and specificity. The active RAB30 can recruit specific effectors to vesicles guiding them in the cellular sorting processes and aiding in maintaining cellular homeostasis.

Pathways

RAB30 is primarily involved in the endocytic and exocytic pathways. It ensures proper vesicle formation budding and fusion events that are essential for cellular communication. Rabs cycle between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form that is able to recruit to membranes different set of downstream effectors directly responsible for vesicle formation, movement, tethering and fusion (By similarity). Required for maintaining the structural integrity of the Golgi apparatus, possibly by mediating interactions with cytoplasmic scaffolding proteins.
