REXO1 also known as RNA exonuclease 1 homolog is a protein primarily involved in RNA processing. It functions mechanistically as an exonuclease which means it helps cut and process RNA molecules by removing nucleotides from the ends of RNA. This protein has an approximate molecular mass of 126 kDa. Researchers have identified REXO1 expression in various tissues but it is especially present in the testis and ovary indicating roles in reproductive tissue functions.

REXO1 plays a significant role in maintaining RNA stability and regulating RNA quantity in cells. This protein does not operate alone; it is part of the exosome complex which is indispensable for RNA processing and degradation.
