Biological function summary
Sulfotransferase family 1C member 2 participates in the metabolism and detoxification of hormones neurotransmitters and xenobiotics. This enzyme does not typically function as part of a larger protein complex but acts individually to modify and regulate the activity and excretion of its substrates. Through sulfonation SULT1C2 contributes to the regulation of hormone activity and assists in the chemical defense mechanism of the organism by aiding the elimination of potential toxins.
Pathways
The activity of SULT1C2 plays a significant role in the sulfation pathway. It is important in the modification process which affects molecules in the metabolism particularly those involved in drug metabolism and the detoxification processes. SULT1C2 interacts with other enzymes from the sulfotransferase family that also contribute to these metabolic pathways such as SULT1A1 and SULT1E1.
