TMEM16B also known as ANO2 is a calcium-activated chloride channel with a mass of around 116 kDa. It plays a role in ion transport across the cell membrane. TMEM16B is expressed in various tissues most notably in the sensory neurons and the retina where it contributes to the function of sensory systems. Its activity depends on calcium presence allowing the passage of chloride ions which affects membrane potential and cellular signaling.
Biological function summary

TMEM16B influences processes like odor detection and vision. It acts as a component of a larger channel complex involved in the transduction of sensory signals. In olfactory sensory neurons TMEM16B modulates the signaling pathway by which odors lead to nerve impulses making it important for the sense of smell.
