TRIM9 also known as Tripartite Motif Containing 9 is an E3 ubiquitin ligase with a mass of approximately 68 kDa. This protein adds ubiquitin to substrate proteins tagging them for proteasomal degradation or altering their activity. TRIM9 contains a RING domain B-box type zinc finger and coiled-coil region typical of the TRIM family proteins. It is widely expressed in the nervous system with high levels found in the brain highlighting its significance in neural processes.
Biological function summary

The TRIM9 protein regulates axon pathfinding and synapse formation influencing neural network development. TRIM9 forms complexes with other proteins to modulate cytoskeletal dynamics affecting neuron shape and connectivity.
