ZKSCAN3 also known as Zinc finger protein with KRAB and SCAN domains 3 is a transcription factor with an approximate mass of 95 kDa. It contains zinc finger motifs that bind to DNA influencing the transcription of specific genes. ZKSCAN3 is expressed in various tissues with high levels noted in the kidney liver and lung. Specifically represses expression of genes involved in autophagy and lysosome biogenesis/function such as MAP1LC3B, ULK1 or WIPI2. Associates with chromatin at the ITGB4 and VEGF promoters.
