AEBP2 also known as Adipocyte Enhancer-Binding Protein 2 is a zinc finger protein with a molecular weight of approximately 55 kDa. It is expressed in various tissues especially in the brain and adipose tissue. AEBP2 performs its function through its ability to bind DNA and interact with other proteins in the nucleus. This protein is involved in transcriptional regulation influencing gene expression by acting as a transcriptional repressor or activator depending on the context.
Biological function summary

AEBP2 plays an important role in chromatin remodeling as it is a part of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2). This complex is essential for maintaining the transcriptionally repressive state of genes especially during development. By modulating histone methylation AEBP2 through PRC2 regulates the expression of genes important for cellular differentiation and proliferation. Its function is important for establishing the differentiation potential of stem cells and maintaining cellular identity.

Pathways

AEBP2 participates in significant biological routes such as the Wnt signaling and Hedgehog pathways. These pathways are responsible for regulating important aspects of embryonic development and cellular processes. Within the Wnt signaling pathway it interacts with other components like beta-catenin to regulate cell fate determination. In the Hedgehog pathway it has associations with proteins like GLI1 modulating gene expression linked to developmental patterning.

AEBP2 has connections with cancer and neurological disorders. Alterations in the expression levels of AEBP2 and the PRC2 complex have been linked with tumor progression especially in breast and prostate cancers. Dysfunction in its pathways also associates with neurodevelopmental disorders due to its role in gene silencing and methylation via PRC2. Proteins like EZH2 another component of PRC2 exhibit similar dysregulation in these disease contexts emphasizing the biological significance of AEBP2.

일반 정보

기능

Acts as an accessory subunit for the core Polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), which mediates histone H3K27 (H3K27me3) trimethylation on chromatin leading to transcriptional repression of the affected target gene (PubMed : 15225548, PubMed : 29499137, PubMed : 31959557). Plays a role in nucleosome localization of the PRC2 complex (PubMed : 29499137).

서열 유사성

Belongs to the AEBP2/jing C2H2-type zinc-finger family.
