The protein GPD1L also known as glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase 1-like protein plays an enzymatic role in converting L-glycerol-3-phosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate while reducing NAD+ to NADH. Its molecular mass is approximately 39 kDa. GPD1L is expressed in the heart muscle and various other tissues. Its expression levels vary depending on the tissue indicating different roles in various biological environments.
Biological function summary

GPD1L affects several metabolic processes which are essential for cellular energy balance and homeostasis. It does not form a known complex but interacts with cellular components influencing metabolic flux. By acting as part of redox reactions it helps in maintaining the balance of redox states in cells. It also affects ion channels by modulating sodium current density in cardiac tissues which is important for heart function.
