Biological function summary
Neurocalcin Delta modulates signal transduction by affecting the activity of calcium-dependent enzymes and ion channels. It does so by binding calcium ions which causes a conformational change allowing it to interact with its target proteins. While NCALD does not typically form large protein complexes it often interacts with smaller complexes influencing their function. Its regulatory impact on enzymes and ion channels highlights its important role in maintaining cellular functions.
Pathways
NCALD contributes to various neural signaling pathways notably the calcium signaling pathway and the phototransduction pathway. Within the calcium signaling pathway NCALD interacts with proteins such as calmodulin and recoverin which are important for transmitting calcium signals that control numerous cellular processes. In the phototransduction pathway NCALD functions alongside proteins involved in converting light signals into neuronal signals in the retina.
