Biological function summary
NUDT10 helps maintain nucleotide pool balance and reduces oxidative DNA damage by converting oxidized nucleotide derivatives into non-mutagenic forms. This enzyme might act independently or in coordination with other NUDT family members though not clearly part of a larger complex. By mitigating the accumulation of oxidized nucleotides NUDT10 contributes to genomic stability and cellular homeostasis.
Pathways
NUDT10 plays an important role in both the nucleotide metabolism and oxidative stress response pathways. It closely relates to the activity of other proteins such as NUDT1 which also degrades oxidized nucleotides. Through its enzymatic action NUDT10 ensures proper DNA replication and repair by preventing incorporation of damaged nucleotides into DNA thereby supporting the cell's ability to manage oxidative stress and maintain proper function.

Cleaves a beta-phosphate from the diphosphate groups in PP-InsP5 (diphosphoinositol pentakisphosphate), suggesting that it may play a role in signal transduction. Also able to catalyze the hydrolysis of dinucleoside oligophosphates, with Ap6A and Ap5A being the preferred substrates. The major reaction products are ADP and p4a from Ap6A and ADP and ATP from Ap5A. Also able to hydrolyze 5-phosphoribose 1-diphosphate.
