FunctionCalcium-dependent lectin involved in innate immune defense. Binds mannose, fucose and N-acetylglucosamine on different microorganisms and activates the lectin complement pathway. Binds to late apoptotic cells, as well as to apoptotic blebs and to necrotic cells, but not to early apoptotic cells, facilitating their uptake by macrophages. May bind DNA.

Immunohistochemical analysis of paraffin-embedded mouse liver tissue labeling Mannan Binding Lectin/MBL with ab212060 at 1/4000 dilution, followed by Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (HRP) Ready to use. Cytoplasmic staining in mouse liver (PMID: 12538708) is observed. Counter stained with hematoxylin.
