  • Function

MARCKS is the most prominent cellular substrate for protein kinase C. This protein binds calmodulin, actin, and synapsin. MARCKS is a filamentous (F) actin cross-linking protein.
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the MARCKS family.
  • Post-translational

Phosphorylation by PKC displaces MARCKS from the membrane. It also inhibits the F-actin cross-linking activity.
  • Cellular localization

    Cytoplasm > cytoskeleton. Membrane.

  • ab51100 at 1/100 dilution staining MARCKS in paraffin embedded human brain sections by Immunohistochemistry, in the absence and presence of the immunizing (blocking) peptide.
  • Anti-MARCKS antibody (ab51100) at 1/2000 dilution + 293 cells, lysed in RIPA buffer containing minicomplete protease inhibitors at 30 µg

    HRP conjugated goat anti-rabbit

    Developed using the ECL technique.

    Performed under reducing conditions.

    Observed band size: 63 kDa
why is the actual band size different from the predicted?
Additional bands at: 19 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.

    Exposure time: 30 seconds

Primary antibody was incubated with the blot for 1 hour at 20°C. Run on neutral pH gel which may account for unexpectedly low MW due to charge effects.
