Target
-
Function
Receptor for MSH (alpha, beta and gamma) and ACTH. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate adenylate cyclase. This receptor is a possible mediator of the immunomodulation properties of melanocortins. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed in the brain but not in the melanoma cells. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. -
Cellular localization
Cell membrane. - Information by UniProt

Lane 2 : Anti-MC-2 antibody (ab87470) at 1 µg/ml (Blocked in 3% MILK)
All lanes : Human skeletal muscle tissue lysate - total protein (ab29330)
Lysates/proteins at 10 µg per lane.
Secondary
Lane 1 : Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG H&L (HRP) preadsorbed (ab97080) at 1/5000 dilution
Lane 2 : Recombinant rat MCP1 protein (ab9780) at 1/5000 dilution
Developed using the ECL technique.
Performed under reducing conditions.
Predicted band size: 37 kDa
Observed band size: 43 kDa why is the actual band size different from the predicted?
Exposure time: 2 minutesMC-2 contains a number of potential glycosylation sites (SwissProt) which may explain its migration at a higher molecular weight than predicted. Abcam recommends using milk (3%) as the blocking agent. Abcam welcomes customer feedback and would appreciate any comments regarding this product and the data presented above.
