    In case of filovirus infection, seems to function as a cell entry factor.
  • Tissue specificity
    Not expressed in normal B- and T-lymphocytes but is expressed in numerous neoplastic B- and T-cell lines.
  • Involvement in disease
    Defects in MERTK are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 38 (RP38) [MIM:613862]. RP38 is a retinal dystrophy belonging to the group of pigmentary retinopathies. Retinitis pigmentosa is characterized by retinal pigment deposits visible on fundus examination and primary loss of rod photoreceptor cells followed by secondary loss of cone photoreceptors. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well.

I am sorry to hear that the results weren't improved. I am happy to replace the antibody with a new one however as this is the only phospho specific antibody we have so there in no option for replacement unless you want a different ab.

The results are very strange. I am sorry I could not find a good reason why the antibodies are showing difference. Technically, they should show the same band size. The MERTK protein is heavily glycosylated so 180 kDa band is possible. Could you tell me which cell line you are using?

Could you redo the experiment without stripping the membrane and by including the no primary control?

Inquiry: Hi, I have had a problem with your antibody against phosphorylated MerTK in western blot, it seems to recognise the wrong protein. I have run (Gas-6/Protein S stimulated) cell lysates corresponding to 20 ug total protein (lysis buffer 25 mM Tris pH 7.4, 150 mM NaCl, 5 mM EDTA, 10% glycerol, 1% Triton X-100 with protease and phosphatase inhibitors) under reducing conditions on a 4-15% gradient gel followed by blotting to a PVDF membrane. As blocking reagent I used 3% fish gelatine in 50 mM Tris pH 8, 150 mM NaCl, 0.1% Tween-20, 1 h RT. I incubated the blot with the above mentioned antibody for 1 h at RT diluted 1:1000 in blocking buffer followed by 4 washes with 50 mM Tris pH 8, 150 mM NaCl, 0.1% Tween-20. As a secondary antibody I used a swine anti-rabbit HRP conjugate from Dako, diluted 1:3000 in blocking buffer. Incubation time again 1 h RT. The membrane was washed 4 times as above and developed using ECL. After phosphoMer detection the blot was stripped using 0.4 M NaOH (12 min RT) after which total Mer was analysed using the RabMAb a b52968. When detecting phosphoMer I see a band of approx 130 kDa as opposed to a band of ca 180 kDa when detecting total Mer. This obviously can not be the same protein. Since the antibody against the phosphorylated Mer gives only one band I can assume it is specific, but against another protein. For details, see attached file. Since this antibody is of no use in Mer-studies I was wondering If I can get another antibody as a compensation?
