Target

  • Function

Receptor for glutamate. The activity of this receptor is mediated by a G-protein that activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. May participate in the central action of glutamate in the CNS, such as long-term potentiation in the hippocampus and long-term depression in the cerebellum.
  • Sequence similarities

Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family.
  • Cellular localization

    Cell membrane.
  • Target information above from: UniProt accession Q13255 The UniProt Consortium

    Asked on Feb 04 2013

    Answer

I performed a search of some other anti - metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 antibodies, and it seems the glutamate receptor can run between ˜110 - 130 kDa depending on the post-translational modification in the tested samples. Thus, the 110 kDa band that is observed in the western blot image on the datasheet for ab82211 represents metabotropic glutamate receptor 1.
