  • Relevance

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone produced by trophoblastic cells of the placenta beginning 10 to 12 days after conception. Maintenance of the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy requires the production of hCG, which binds to the corpus luteum of the ovary which is stimulated to produce progesterone which in turn maintains the secretory endometrium. hCG is present only in trace amounts in non pregnant urine and sera. It rises sharply during pregnancy. HCG is composed of two non identical, non covalently linked polypeptide chains designated as the a and b subunits. The a subunit of HCG is nearly identical to that of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). A germ cell tumor which is positive for cytokeratin, placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) and HCG but negative for EMA and AFP is probably a choriocarcinoma.

Answer

Thank you for contacting us.

All three of these proteins (ab51782, ab77874, and ab126652) are full length native human hCG with a molecular weight of 36.7 kDa, consisting of the alpha and beta chains (UniProt: P01215 and P01233). The proteins ab77874 and ab126652 are known to be active, while ab51782 has not been tested for activity. Ab51782 and ab77874 are >95% pure, while ab126652 is >50% pure. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Answer

Thank you for contacting us. Indeed, I can confirm that the hCG protein ab51782 is produced from a sterile preparation of placental glucoprotein urine of post-menopausal women and has a total molecular mass of 36,700 Dalton. It consists of 237 amino acids, i.e. both the 92 amino acids alpha-chain and 145 amino acids beta-chain. The hCG is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. ab51782 is biologically active compared to standard. The biological activity of hCG is determined by using the seminal vesicle weight gain test in male rats described in the "Chorionic Gonadotrophins" monograph of the European Pharmacopoeia. The in vivo biological activity of hCG has been calibrated against the third international reference preparation IS75/587 for chorionic gonadotropin. The specific activity was found to be 5000 IU/mg. I hope this information is helpful to you and your customer. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information.
