  • Function

Fodrin, which seems to be involved in secretion, interacts with calmodulin in a calcium-dependent manner and is thus candidate for the calcium-dependent movement of the cytoskeleton at the membrane.
  • Involvement in disease

Defects in SPTAN1 are the cause of epileptic encephalopathy early infantile type 5 (EIEE5) [MIM:613477]. EIEE5 is a disorder characterized by seizures associated with hypsarrhythmia profound mental retardation with lack of visual attention and speech development, as well as spastic quadriplegia.
  • Sequence similarities

    Belongs to the spectrin family.
    Contains 3 EF-hand domains.
    Contains 1 SH3 domain.
    Contains 23 spectrin repeats.
  • Post-translational

Phosphorylation of Tyr-1176 decreases sensitivity to cleavage by calpain in vitro.
  • Cellular localization

Cytoplasm > cytoskeleton. Cytoplasm > cell cortex. Expressed along the cell membrane in podocytes and presumptive tubule cells during glomerulogenesis and is expressed along lateral cell margins in tubule cells.

Customer reviews and Q&As

1-2 of 2 Abreviews or Q&A

Thank you for your enquiry. I have investigated our records for ab2558 Alpha Fodrin antibody. Regarding mouse reactivity, the answer to this question on the datasheet was provided in 2006. We now have information to confirm that this antibody has been tested succesfully in mouse, and so we now have mouse as a tested and guaranteed species. Regarding the immunogen, again these enquires were from 2004 to 2006. I can confirm that the immunogen is a synthetic peptide surrounding amino acid 162 of mouse alpha-Fodrin. I have confirmed this with our source. This appears to have changed in the past and I am currently investigating this with them. I understand your confusion, and I have removed these published enquires from the datasheet. (Please note it can take a few days for this to update on the internet Cache systems). I apologize for any inconvenience. The quality of our antibodies and datasheets is very important to us, as is any feedback and data we receive. Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.
