DescriptionRabbit polyclonal to Nociceptin
-
Host speciesRabbit
-
SpecificityAchieved by producing antibody only against the C terminal portion of the full peptide that avoids possible cross-reaction with enkephalin, dynorphin and endorphin. Specificity was tested by the use of various peptides for adsorption in immunohistochemistry including enkephalin, dynorphin and endorphin.
-
Tested applicationsSuitable for: ELISA, IHC-Fr, RIAmore details
-
Species reactivityReacts with: Rat, Guinea pig
-
Immunogen
Synthetic peptide CTGARKSARKLANQ corresponds to rat nociceptin protein with a cysteine added at the N terminal for conjugation to diphtheria toxoid. The peptide was cross-linked by maleimidocaproyl-N-hydroxy succinimide.
-
General notesThis antibody can be used for staining nerve fibres in guinea pig myenteric plexus. Staining was established with the use of fluorescence immunohistochemistry (CY3).

Target
-
FunctionNociceptin: Ligand of the opioid receptor-like receptor OPRL1. It may act as a transmitter in the brain by modulating nociceptive and locomotor behavior. May be involved in neuronal differentiation and development.
Nocistatin: Blocks nociceptin action in pain transmission by inhibiting nociceptin-induced hyperalgesia and allodynia.
Orphanin FQ2: Has potent analgesic activity. -
Tissue specificityPredominantly expressed in the brain and spinal cord. Also expressed and secreted by peripheral blood neutrophils following degranulation.
-
Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the opioid neuropeptide precursor family.
-
Post-translational
modificationsSpecific enzymatic cleavages at paired basic residues probably yield other active peptides besides nociceptin.
The N-terminal domain contains 6 conserved cysteines thought to be involved in disulfide bonding and/or processing. -
Cellular localizationSecreted.
