DescriptionRabbit polyclonal to NT-4
SpecificityLess than 1% cross reactivity against NGF, BDNF and NT3 by dot blot. Cross reactivity: Known to react with human NT4. Not yet tested against other species.
Tested applicationsSuitable for: Dot blot, ELISA, IHC-Fr, Neutralising, WBmore details
Species reactivityReacts with: Human
Recombinant full length protein (Human).
General notesThe concentrations of NT4 are generally very low in most tissues. A good positive control is neonatal testes of rat (Zhang et al, 1999). This antibody has been shown useful for quantitative ELISA, immunohistochemistry of lesioned brain as well as for western blot and inhibition of biological activity
Previously labelled as Neurotrophin 4.

FunctionTarget-derived survival factor for peripheral sensory sympathetic neurons.
Tissue specificityHighest levels in prostate, lower levels in thymus, placenta, and skeletal muscle. Expressed in embryonic and adult tissues.
Involvement in diseaseDefects in NTF4 may be associated with susceptibility to primary open angle glaucoma type 1O (GLC1O) [MIM:613100]. A form of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). POAG is characterized by a specific pattern of optic nerve and visual field defects. The angle of the anterior chamber of the eye is open, and usually the intraocular pressure is increased. The disease is asymptomatic until the late stages, by which time significant and irreversible optic nerve damage has already taken place.
Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the NGF-beta family.
