We are also planning to innovate the way in which we present recommended applications and species on our product datasheets, so that only applications & species that have been tested in our own labs, our suppliers or by selected trusted collaborators are covered by our Abpromise™ guarantee.
In preparation for this, we have started to update the applications & species that this product is Abpromise guaranteed for.
We are also updating the applications & species that this product has been “predicted to work with,” however this information is not covered by our Abpromise guarantee.
Applications & species from publications and Abreviews that have not been tested in our own labs or in those of our suppliers are not covered by the Abpromise guarantee.

FunctionSevers microtubules in vitro in an ATP-dependent manner. This activity may promote rapid reorganization of cellular microtubule arrays, such as during disassembly of interphase microtubules at the G2-M transition. May also be required for microtubule release from the centrosome after nucleation. In mitotic spindles this could allow depolymerization of the microtubule end proximal to the centrosome, and subsequent poleward microtubule flux. In neurons, microtubule release within the cell body may allow their subsequent transport into neuronal processes by microtubule dependent motor proteins. This transport is required for axonal growth.
Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the AAA ATPase family.
DomainThe N-terminus is sufficient for interaction with microtubules, although high affinity binding requires an intact C-terminal domain and ATP, which promotes oligomerization.
Cellular localizationCytoplasm. Cytoplasm > cytoskeleton > centrosome. Cytoplasm > cytoskeleton > spindle pole. Predominantly cytoplasmic. Also localized to the interphase centrosome. Enhanced recruitment to the mitotic spindle poles requires microtubules and interaction with KATNB1.
