FunctionFollowing activation by double-stranded RNA in the presence of ATP, the kinase becomes autophosphorylated and can catalyze the phosphorylation of the translation initiation factor EIF2S1, which leads to an inhibition of the initiation of protein synthesis. Double-stranded RNA is generated during the course of a viral infection.

PKR was immunoprecipitated from MCF7 (human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) whole cell lysate with ab226819. Western blot was performed from the immunoprecipitate using ab226819.
Lane 1: Rabbit IgG instead of ab226819 in MCF7 whole cell lysate.
Lane 2: ab226819 IP in MCF7 whole cell lysate.
Paraffin embedded human lung cancer tissue stained for PKR using ab226819 at 1/500 dilution in immunohistochemical analysis.
