Abcam’s Albumin Human in vitro competitive ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the measurement of albumin in Human plasma and serum.

An albumin specific antibody has been precoated onto 96-well plates and blocked. Standards or test samples are added to the wells and subsequently biotinylated albumin is added and then followed by washing with wash buffer. Streptavidin-Peroxidase Complex is added and unbound conjugates are washed away with wash buffer. TMB is then used to visualize Streptavidin-Peroxidase enzymatic reaction. TMB is catalyzed by Streptavidin-Peroxidase to produce a blue color product that changes into yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is inversely proportional to the amount of albumin captured in plate.

Get results in 90 minutes with Human Serum Albumin ELISA Kit (ab179887) from our SimpleStep ELISA® range.

The entire kit may be stored at -20°C for long term storage before reconstitution - Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

    • Function

Serum albumin, the main protein of plasma, has a good binding capacity for water, Ca(2+), Na(+), K(+), fatty acids, hormones, bilirubin and drugs. Its main function is the regulation of the colloidal osmotic pressure of blood. Major zinc transporter in plasma, typically binds about 80% of all plasma zinc.
    • Tissue specificity

      Plasma.
    • Involvement in disease

Defects in ALB are a cause of familial dysalbuminemic hyperthyroxinemia (FDH) [MIM:103600]. FDH is a form of euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia that is due to increased affinity of ALB for T(4). It is the most common cause of inherited euthyroid hyperthyroxinemia in Caucasian population.
    • Sequence similarities

      Belongs to the ALB/AFP/VDB family.
      Contains 3 albumin domains.
    • Post-translational
      modifications

Kenitra variant is partially O-glycosylated at Thr-620. It has two new disulfide bonds Cys-600 to Cys-602 and Cys-601 to Cys-606.
      Glycated in diabetic patients.
Phosphorylation sites are present in the extracelllular medium.
Acetylated on Lys-223 by acetylsalicylic acid.
    • Cellular localization

      Secreted.

      Question

Dear Technical staff, I was wondering if you ever tested cross-reactivity with rat albumin. I am looking for an elisa assay that allows to detect human albumin in rat serum of animal transplanted with human hepatocytes. So I need rat albumin not to be detected. Thanks a lot

      Question

      Dear Sir / Madam,

I was wondering if you would be able to provide us any information on following please?

      1. We have received kit with different lot numbers, i.e. GR86234-5, GR86234-6 and GR86234-9. While using these kits for testing concentration of HSA, the concentration estimated for our HSA sample (with known concentration) were found to have about 40% variation when it is tested across 3 different kits. And we are seeing a 10-50% overestimation of HSA concentration for the same sample.

      2. While running a HSA standard curve according to what stated in the manual, we found that standard 0 ug/mL (sampled just diluent) has very high intensity and signal always went OVERFLOW (our reader read absorbance above 3.0 as OVERFLOW. Hence, standards with 100, 25, 6.25 and 1.563 ug/mL were used to plot standard curve. We were wondering if this is the usual case?

Thank you. Please feel free to contact me should you need any further information.

      Best regards,

Thank you very much for your call this week and for your patience while I've been in touch with the lab.

The lab scientists do not recommend using a different buffer with this kit, as the results will be less than optimal. I'm arranging for a free of charge bottle of the wash buffer to be sent to you. Could you let me know your original order or PO number?

      Question

      Dear Sir/madam,

I am planning to buy 3 * 3 kits i.e 9 kits in total for detecting 3 different things as following:

      Albumin Human ELISA Kit

      Transferrin Human ELISA Kit

beta 2 Microglobulin Human ELISA Kit

I have some questions before I do this step and your help is highly appreciated. My questions are:

      1. I do measure above targets in peritoneal dialysate (PD) fluid and plasma. There are 2 types of ELISA in your company (Cell culture supernatant, Saliva, Milk, Urine Elisa which is more sensitive than plasma, serum Elisa). I am thinking to buyCell culture supernatant, Saliva, Milk, Urine Elisa, then I use them for measuring in Pd fluid and plasma . Is it applicable to use cell culturesupernatant Elisa for both?

      2. I am student and I am planing to buy the rest 6 Elisa after I get good results from 1st 3 Elisa that I use like test. Do I get good discount?

      3. I found sELISA, cELISA,...etc. what these small s and creferto?

      4. Is the only difference betweenab108885 andab99977, is difference in sensitivity?

Note: I have goodexperience with abcam. I bought MMP-13 Elisa kit from abcam few months ago and it worked perfectly. When I did biocompare search, then I found tempting prices in some companies, but Abcam was my first decision to contact after this good past experience.

      Thanks,
      Samir

      Answer

Thank you for your inquiry and you positive feedback.

Please see my answers to your questions below:

      1. I can confirm that the kits ab108902 (Transferrin Human ELISA Kit) and ab108788 (Albumin Human ELISA kit) were especially optimised for cell culture samples and I recommend to choose them for the experiment.

      2. We do offer bulk oder discounts. If you order 5 or more products you will get a discount. For 6 products you will currently get a 5% discount. Please do not forget to mention that when ordering. If you are planning to order more than 10 products, please contact our customer service department with the numbers and they might be able to offer you a higher discount.

      3. I can confirm that c stands for competitive ELISA and s stands for sandwich ELISA. In a competitive ELISA the competitor is labeled with biotin and the amount of the bound competitor is measured. This means that a high OD indicates a low amount of the protein of interest in your sample. A low OD means that the competitor has been ousted and there is a high amount of the protein of interest in the sample.

      4. I can confirm that the main difference between these two kits is the sensitivity. Both are suitable for cell culture supernatant, urine, serum, plasma.

Our Abpromise guarantee applies to all these kits.

I hope this information is helpful and wish you good luck with your experiments. Please do not hesitate to contact me again with any further questions.
