Target

  • Function

Functions both as a transporter that mediates electroneutral anion exchange across the cell membrane and as a structural protein. Major integral membrane glycoprotein of the erythrocyte membrane; required for normal flexibility and stability of the erythrocyte membrane and for normal erythrocyte shape via the interactions of its cytoplasmic domain with cytoskeletal proteins, glycolytic enzymes, and hemoglobin. Functions as a transporter that mediates the 1:1 exchange of inorganic anions across the erythrocyte membrane. Mediates chloride-bicarbonate exchange in the kidney, and is required for normal acidification of the urine.
  • Tissue specificity

Detected in erythrocytes (at protein level) (PubMed:7506871, PubMed:26542571). Isoform 2 is expressed in kidney (at protein level) (PubMed:7506871).
  • Involvement in disease

    Ovalocytosis, Southeast Asian
    Spherocytosis 4
Renal tubular acidosis, distal, autosomal dominant
Renal tubular acidosis, distal, with hemolytic anemia
Renal tubular acidosis, distal, with normal red cell morphology
    Cryohydrocytosis
  • Sequence similarities

Belongs to the anion exchanger (TC 2.A.31) family.
  • Post-translational
    modifications

Phosphorylated on Tyr-8 and Tyr-21 most likely by SYK. PP1-resistant phosphorylation that precedes Tyr-359 and Tyr-904 phosphorylation.
Phosphorylated on Tyr-359 and Tyr-904 most likely by LYN. PP1-inhibited phosphorylation that follows Tyr-8 and Tyr-21 phosphorylation.
    N-glycosylated.
  • Cellular localization

Cell membrane. Basolateral cell membrane. Detected in the erythrocyte cell membrane and on the basolateral membrane of alpha-intercalated cells in the collecting duct in the kidney.

    Answer

    Thank you for contacting us.

The macaca Band 3 protein is about 94% homologous to the human protein. It seems that the anti human Band 3 antibodies will cross react with Macaca proteins also.

You can choose any of the anti Band 3 antibodies from the website. Please be advised that Macaca is not a tested species so we could not 100% confirm the x-reactivity. The use of this antibody with macaca is not guaranteed however we are happy to provide the Abreview 100% testing discount if you are interested in using any of these antibody with Macaca mulata species. We currently do not have Rhesus Monkey Band 3 specific antibodies. The Band 3 antibodies we have are ab11012, ab77236, ab78067, ab104998, ab108414, ab125070 and they seems specific to N-terminal cytoplasmic domain of the protein.

As discussed please send me the sequence link of Rhesus Band 3 protein, I will then do the further search.

    Answer

    Thank you for contacting us.

The peptide immunogen maps between amino acids 35 and 65 of human Band3 (UniProt: P02730). It is closer to the N-term.

There is a possibility that ab104998 immunogen might be extracellular but I am waiting for the laboratory that developed it to confirm and will forward what they tell me. None of our other Band3 antibodies are raised against extracellular domains.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information.
