Target

  • Function

Plays an important role in growth control. Its major role in stimulating body growth is to stimulate the liver and other tissues to secrete IGF-1. It stimulates both the differentiation and proliferation of myoblasts. It also stimulates amino acid uptake and protein synthesis in muscle and other tissues.
  • Involvement in disease

Defects in GH1 are a cause of growth hormone deficiency isolated type 1A (IGHD1A) [MIM:262400]; also known as pituitary dwarfism I. IGHD1A is an autosomal recessive deficiency of GH which causes short stature. IGHD1A patients have an absence of GH with severe dwarfism and often develop anti-GH antibodies when given exogenous GH.
Defects in GH1 are a cause of growth hormone deficiency isolated type 1B (IGHD1B) [MIM:612781]; also known as dwarfism of Sindh. IGHD1B is an autosomal recessive deficiency of GH which causes short stature. IGHD1B patients have low but detectable levels of GH. Dwarfism is less severe than in IGHD1A and patients usually respond well to exogenous GH.
Defects in GH1 are the cause of Kowarski syndrome (KWKS) [MIM:262650]; also known as pituitary dwarfism VI.
Defects in GH1 are a cause of growth hormone deficiency isolated type 2 (IGHD2) [MIM:173100]. IGHD2 is an autosomal dominant deficiency of GH which causes short stature. Clinical severity is variable. Patients have a positive response and immunologic tolerance to growth hormone therapy.

    Question

The antibody ab126882 is listed as being a neutralizing Ab for rat growth hormone. Can you provide details on how the neutralizing activity was tested and data showing its effectiveness?

    Asked on Mar 12 2013

    Answer

We have done some preliminary test to make sure that this antibody works but detailed test data is not yet available. Because of that we plan to take off the neutralization application from our datasheet for now and add it back once we have more data. This will be reflected on the datasheet soon.

    Question

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could give me an idea of the lead time on ab30538 (mouse anti-bovine growth hormone monoclonal antibody)? Are you also able to tell me what the mid- to long-term supply of this antibody is likely to be like? Are there any current plans to discontinue this antibody?

    Many thanks,

    Answer

    Thank you for your message.

The current availability of each product is provided on the individual datasheets.

For ab30538, for the UK it currently states: 'Order now and get it on Tuesday 27 November 2012'.

So if you place your order by 4 pm today, you would receive it tomorrow. We have a few in stock, but I can still recommend to place your order as soon as possible in case we receive other orders for this product and availability changes.

Regarding long term availability, I can confirm we have no current plans to discontinue this product and it is not likely we will do so in the near future. However, please note that decisions regarding products on the catalog can sometimes be made quickly, and so I am sorry I we are regrettably not able to provide a guarantee of how long this will be available for.

I hope this will be helpful. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Question

    Hi

Many thanks for your e-mail. You mention that this product has not been tested with samples from mouse – am I right to assume it has not been tested with human, bovine or porcine samples either because these are not mentioned on the datasheet?

Are you also able to tell me what the future supply of this antibody is likely to be? If the product works for our assay we may be looking at fairly regular orders long term so we would run into problems if the product was discontinued or if lead times were to be extended significantly. I know it may be difficult to answer these questions at this stage, but if you're able to give any indication of long term supply I'd be very grateful!

    Best wishes,

    Polly

    Hi,

I was wondering if you’d be able to tell me what the availability of the above product (ab126882) is currently? Do you know what the likely lead time on this product is for delivery within the UK?

Also, do you have any data regarding the cross-reactivity of this antibody with growth hormone from species other than rat (e.g. human, bovine, porcine etc)?

    Many thanks,

    Asked on Sep 27 2012

    Answer

    Thank you for your reply.

I'm sorry I should perhaps have been more specific and clear in my last message and am not sure why I mentioned mouse in particular.

You are right, only tested species will be listed on the datasheet. If a species has been tested and the results have not been successful, it will be listed as 'does not react with'.

Therefore, this antibody (ab126882 Anti-Rat Growth Hormone antibody) has not been tested in human, cow or pig.

We recommend that alignment with the immunogen should be over 85% to predict that an antibody will detect in a different species. In this case, the alignment with the species you are interested in are as follows:

    Human 65%
    Bovine 87%
    Pig 94%

Therefore, I would suggest that the antibody will detect in bovine and pig samples as the alignment is high, although please note we are not able to guarantee this without further testing. For human, the alignment is lower, and at 65% there may be some crossreactivity although itis likelynot togive a verystrong signal.

I hope this will be helpful information for you. If you would like to test ab126882 in cow or pig, please do not hesitate to contact me again prior to the purchaseby replying to this message as you may be eligible for our testing discount program and I'll be pleased to send you more information.

With regards to availability of this product, I am sorry we are not able to guarantee the availability of any of our products in the long term. However, I have spoken to our business development commercial department, who have assured me that we have no current plans to discontinue this antibody. However, this can change quite quickly, particularly for items that are sources externally,so please note we cannot guarantee this.

I hope this information will beuseful. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
