Function
Required for proper neuronal differentiation of most or all neurons and their precursors in central and peripheral nervous systems, axonal outgrowth and pathfinding. Not required for the specification of neuronal identity. May regulate transcription by binding to DNA. -
Tissue specificity
Expressed in embryonic neuronal precursors. Expressed in the developing CNS, lens-secreting cone cells of the eye, and midgut. -
Sequence similarities
Belongs to the Prospero homeobox family.
Contains 1 Prospero-type homeobox DNA-binding domain. -
Developmental stage
Expressed during embryogenesis. -

Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence - Anti-Homeobox protein prospero antibody [P3D4-1F10] (ab201326)
Immunohistochemistry analysis in neuroblast nuclei from Drosophila stage 15 embryos. The cells were fixed in 4% formaldehyde for 25 minutes, permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100/PBS, and blocked in 0.1% Triton X-100/PBS, 2.5% Normal Goat Serum, 2.5% Normal Donkey Serum. The Prospero antibody (ab201326) was at 3.4 µg/mL, overnight at 4°C. The secondary antibody used was Alexa488 conjugated goat anti-rat at 1/400.
